Redbox is one of the ranger stations located at the intersection
of the Angeles Crest Highway and the Mount Wilson Road. There are
quite a few options from here as Redbox is the springboard to many
rides in the area.
Valley Forge Trail - This trail begins about 2 miles up the Mount
Wilson Road at Eaton Saddle. It is a fun and fast ride down to the Valley
Forge camp. This trail is on the north side of the mountains and is
nicely covered along most of the way. The trail is often littered with
oak leaves and pine cones, so you have to be careful as you can get that
sliding on ice effect. The trail is about 2.5 miles long.
Gabrielino Trail - Redbox is almost the halfway point along the
trail between Chantry Flats and JPL. The part of the Gabrielino trail
east of REdbox, between Newcomb's pass and Redbox isn't much fine, in my
estimation, for bike riding. Lots of rocks and lots of hike a bike.
The part between Redbox and Switzer's camp is super fun and one of my
favorite trails. It is wide open at some points.
Kenyon Devore Trail - This trail starts at Mount Wilson, about 5 miles
up the Mount Wilson Road. It is a fun trail that descends steeply to West Ford
Campground. It flows well and is well maintained.
